Fourways Farmers Market is moving to Modderfontein

The hugely popular Fourways Farmers Market announced this month that from March 2020 they will no longer be trading from the Earth Outdoor Living Nursery in Fourways, having outgrown the space located opposite Montecasino. The market's new location (as of March 2020) is at the old Val Bonne Estate in the Modderfontein Reserve. Happily for those who do not want to travel too far from Fourways, the farmers market now also has a second market, the Waterfall Market, located at Waterfall Park next to Mall of Africa.

Soul Souvlaki opens a Rosebank branch

Our favourite casual Greek street food cafe Soul Souvlaki, which started life as a Market on Main market stall in Maboneng, has opened its sixth branch in Rosebank. The new Soul Souvlaki Rosebank is located at the corner of Bath and Baker streets (opposite the Shell garage) in a leafy corner courtyard space that enjoys the shade of a grand plane tree.

Parkhurst's new Italian restaurant Modena

A sister to the fabulous Greek restaurant Kolonaki on Parkhurst's always lively 4th Avenue, Modena is a new Italian restaurant that has taken over the space once occupied by the Vovo Telo cafe. The restaurant describes itself as "celebrating the three pillars of Italian cuisine – life, family and culture" with a beautiful menu of elegantly plated Mediterranean cuisine.

1920 Portuguese in Randburg becomes Aureos 2019

Ferndale Village Shopping Centre's 1920 Portuguese restaurant has new owners and is now known as Aureos 2019. With the new ownership comes an overhaul of the interiors, while the dishes on the menu remain much the same including saucy plates of spicy peri-peri chicken, beef espetada (on a skewer), prawns, Portuguese sardines and calamari. The 1920 Portuguese restaurant at Hutton Court in Hyde Park remains under the same original ownership and retains its focus on traditional Madeiran cuisine.
