Here's a look at the latest new openings that need to be on your radar this month.
Fox Street Foodhall opens at 1 Fox Precinct
After closing for a refresh earlier this year the 1 Fox Market at downtown's 1 Fox Precinct is back, rebranded as the Fox Street Foodhall. The new foodhall launches on the first Thursday in June with plenty of old and new favourites joining the space including Von Pickartz waffles, Sumting Fresh and Death Star Canteen.
New coffee shops on the block
There's nothing like a good cuppa and a slice of a cake at a friendly local coffee shop to kick start the morning. New neighbourhood coffee shops that we've been enjoying this month include Home of the Bean's cute permanent spot overlooking the lush gardens at The Cosmopolitan in Maboneng and the low-key minimalist-chic Ophelia Cafe in Emmarentia. EB Social Kitchen closes and Olives & Plates opens at Hyde Park
The EB Social Kitchen and Bar has closed at Hyde Park's Exclusive Books store with a new branch of the popular bistro chain Olives & Plates set to open in the same location in mid-June.
Mootee cocktail bar closes in Melville
The quirky African-inspired cocktail bar Mootee has closed its doors in Melville. Happily for dive bar fans and cocktail lovers, the adjoining bar Smoking Kills remains open.
Chef Micky's Private Dining on Corlett Drive
Chef extraordinaire Micky Liu, who Joburg Thai cuisine fans may well remember from her Cyrildene restaurant Sai Thai, has opened a new permanent spot at 102 Corlett Drive opposite the entrance to Melrose Arch.
First 15 Brewhouse coming to Newtown
A new craft brewey is on its way to Newtown this winter launched by craft brewers Phumlani Khulu and Kgotso Mokhatle. The First 15 Brewhouse currently produces two pale ales and a crisp signature beer, the aptly named Newtown Lager.
Oysters in Craighall at Shucked Oyster Bar
Joburg now has its very own oyster bar Shucked, occupying the space that was once the Warm & Glad Cafe at the Albans Square centre on Jan Smuts Avenue in Craighall. If you aren't much of a shellfish fan take comfort in the bistro's pro cocktail menu and upmarket gastropub menu.
