JoburgPlaces Urban Farming Tour

Aug 8 - Dec 31 2021       110 Fox Street (between Rissik & Joubert Streets), Marshalltown, Johannesburg
Hosted by JoburgPlaces, Charlie Moyo and Gerald Garner, both city experts with a deep knowledge and love of Johannesburg, this urban farming tour provides unique insights into an aspect of the city's regeneration that is often overlooked.

The experience highlights a fascinating array of forgotten urban spaces that have been given new life by urban farming initiatives. The tour meets up at JoburgPlaces Town Treasures (formerly Thunder Walker), a restaurant and bar based in an historic arcade on Gandhi Square (alone, worth a visit). The walking tour stops at a number of inner-city farms where you will learn about the challenges, potential, and methods used to farm in the heart of the city, where there is great demand for fresh produce from a growing residential population.

You also get to buy produce, and fresh juices and more from the urban farms. It's a fascinating way to engage with a complex city and meet the people whose stories power its energy. In fact, JoburgPlaces tours are always a great way to explore Joburg. Expect to visit lesser-known places, always a treat.
