The opulent gold and glitzy décor is said to have been inspired by Dubai’s plushest lounge-bars, while the menu, created by five-star hotel veteran executive chef Mark Hoberman, seeks to impress its well-heeled clientele with an exciting selection of contemporary tapas that arrives plated like works of art – the desserts in particular are ingenious.
The tapas menu is divided into 'small' and 'more substantial' sections, although with this being tapas we recommend taking a couple of dishes from each. The selection is wide-ranging and includes everything from Hong Kong barbecue baby ribs, to sliders, Moroccan lamb koftas and mushroom arancini. The sushi stack served with deep-fried avocado is a winner, using local ingredients to bring a fresh twist to a Japanese classic. For dessert try the frangelico parfait with cinnamon shortbread and hazelnut praline, a dish perfectly paired with a glass of bubbly.
By day this is a sophisticated and discreet spot for an elegant business lunch, and by night a glitzy lounge-bar with house DJs, cocktails and an excellent wine cellar. Local stars such as 5FM's DJ Fresh are regular guest DJs and L'Opulence's occasional themed parties have proven particularly successful since the bar opened in July 2015. On weekend evenings expect to meet a glamorous crowd, Thursdays are especially popular with the after-work smart set.
