With its quirky and colourful design finishes and a choice of inviting hangout spots including a bar and a self-catering kitchen this is a welcoming space for solo travellers or groups. Colourful beanbags decorate the lobby lounge, there's a large outdoor deck that overlooks the adjacent city square The Grove and guests can take advantage of a movie room with an ingenious arrangement of mattresses providing the upmost comfort while you watch. Meanwhile in the rooms local artists were commissioned by Once in Joburg's artist residency programme to add colour to the walls, staying for free at the hotel in exchange for leaving their artistic mark on the hotel.
Once in Joburg offers dorm or twin rooms and there's also a family room which sleeps up to four people. Female-only dorms are available. Guests can take advantage of a friendly concierge service who can assist with travel bookings, plus there's a small conference centre and a co-working space.
Once in Joburg is located on De Korte Street in the heart of studenty Braamfontein. The popular Neighbourgoods Saturday market is a short walk away as are Braamfontein's many art galleries, museums and bars. The Park Station Gautrain is less than 10 minutes walk from the hotel, from where you can connect to OR Tambo International Airport in just 23 minutes. The open-top City Sightseeing bus also stops right outside the hotel.
