Braamfontein’s newest ‘hotel’ (opened October 2016) or 'poshtel' (a posh version of a hostel) is Once in Joburg, offering the equivalent of three-star hotel accommodation and amenities, but with the informal and social atmosphere of a backpackers. The idea for Once in Joburg came to life when five travellers decided to create an answer to their own travel needs. Their entrepreneurial drive led them in 2013 to create Once in Cape Town and this hotel is the second branch of the successful brand.
Once in Joburg offers dorm or twin rooms and there's also a family room which sleeps up to four people. Female-only dorms are available. Guests can take advantage of a friendly concierge service who can assist with travel bookings, plus there's a small conference centre and a co-working space.
Once in Joburg is located on De Korte Street in the heart of studenty Braamfontein. The popular Neighbourgoods Saturday market is a short walk away as are Braamfontein's many art galleries, museums and bars. The Park Station Gautrain is less than 10 minutes walk from the hotel, from where you can connect to OR Tambo International Airport in just 23 minutes. The open-top City Sightseeing bus also stops right outside the hotel.
