Response to Coronavirus – In Your Pocket City Guides South Africa

Monday March 16, 2020, Johannesburg

These are extraordinary times. As South Africa pulls together to take measures to try and prevent the global spread of the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic, we at In Your Pocket City Guides also need to play our part.

In these unprecedented times it is our social responsibility to protect the health and safety of our tourism industry partners and our team. For these reasons we have regretfully made the decision to postpone both this week’s Sandton In Your Pocket Neighbourhood Concierge Walk (Wed, Mar 18) and the Jozi City Takeover mass photo walk (Sun, Mar 29) for which we had received more than 500 RSVPS.

Both these events aim to connect locals, whether they are hotel staff or enthusiastic photographers, with the many exciting attractions in our city, something which as a tourist guide to Joburg we at In Your Pocket are incredibly passionate about. We look forward to being able to host these events at a later stage in the year.

These are challenging times for all involved in the tourism industry and we need to continue to stay unified and share our understanding and compassion with each other.

As an independent travel publication with a deep commitment to supporting and growing the tourism industry in Johannesburg, we will continue to do everything we can to responsibly support and promote tourism in our city, including sharing information about the many interesting things which you can responsibly see and do in Johannesburg on all of our platforms, including our weekly What's On newsletter.

Throughout this crisis we will also be providing regular updates on cancellations of events, any new precautionary measures taken in the retail and hospitality industries to which we are connected, updates on any restrictions affecting tourists currently in or on their way to South Africa and the many ways that you can help local tourism businesses in their hour of need.

Take your health seriously and the health of others. Take precautions. Stay calm and be safe. Support small businesses.

We are all in this together.
