Shopping for local fashion at Victoria Yards

09 Dec 2019
One of the newest additions to Joburg's neighbourhood map as a space for makers and artisans, Victoria Yards has been transformed from a derelict, sprawling complex of light industrial buildings to a community of makers, artists and artisans.

Located in the gritty suburb of Lorentzville on the eastern side of the city, which is also home to the incredible headquarters of global SA brand Nando's (besides for lip-smacking chicken, they are famous also for their support of local art and design and their HQ is a showcase for this but unfortunately not open to the public), Victoria Yards attracts the crowds monthly for its First Sundays Open Studios events.

On any other day there's also plenty to see but it's worth checking individual opening hours if you are heading there for a specific store or studio. What's caught our eye lately is the opening of a number of studios for local fashion brands we think everyone should know about. From Oscar Ncube's  Dry bone co. funky leather jackets made from recycled vintage leather pants and Augustine's bespoke menswear, to Hélène Thomas' Yol Bijoux Nomades jewellery carefully created from souvenirs from her global travels and Tshepo Mohala's Tshepo The Jean maker denim label, here's our guide to shopping for local fashion at Victoria Yards.
