Strauss & Co's online auction returns this week with another fine opportunity to purchase unique contemporary and historic artworks, as well as beautiful decorative arts and jewellery from the comfort of your computer screen. An accessible way for first-timers to get a taste for buying and collecting art with reserve prices starting from as little as R2,000, it's also a convenient opportunity to bid for unusual antiques and stunning vintage jewellery and accessories.

By registering on the site you get to favourite and compare works and there's also time to read up on your chosen artists before entering your bid.

The November online auction has four fine art sessions: An Unsung History, which focuses on artworks by lesser-known 20th Century black South African artists; Portraits and Figurines, which includes everything from prints by Robert Hodgins and Norman Catherine to etchings by Irma Stern, Landscapes and Animals; and Abstract and Still Lifes which is an colourful selection of works by Ndebele artist Ester Mahlanghu.

In addition to the fine art there's also an eye-catching selection of vintage jewellery to bid for. A veritable treasure trove of unique statement jewellery with reserve estimates that start from as low as R2,000, highlights include some gorgeous Victorian necklaces, pendants and brooches and some stunning art nouveau pieces. Meanwhile collectors of Oriental art and antiques will delight in the more than 100 lots on offer in the Oriental Works of Art session that include carved jade figurines, Qing dynasty porcelain tea sets and elegantly carved wooden furniture.

The online auction is open for bids from 08:00 on Wed Nov 14 until 20:00 on Mon Nov 19. Browse the online auction at the Strauss & Co website here and register to bid on the site by contacting Strauss & Co at jhb@straussart.co.za.
