An ode to the extraordinary women catalysing political change throughout the fallout of the Marikana Massacre. A counterpoint to Rehad Desai’s Miners Shot Down this documentary film provides not just a history of the massacre but also a view of the rebirth of politics in the area, told from the viewpoint of Marikana’s women.

In particular the film centres around two grandmothers Primrose Sonti and Thumeka Magwangqana. These women are in pursuit of justice over the loss of husbands, fathers and brothers from destitute families, while also themselves battling to survive each day in grinding poverty. In spite of everything they continue fighting to keep the suffering and trauma of their community in the minds of those who walk the corridors of power.
