Thandiswa Mazwai is a South African music icon and one of the country's most influential contemporary performers. Previously best known as the lead singer of kwaito group Bongo Maffin, the singer went solo in 2005 with great success, and her meteoric rise to music royalty was cemented with the critically acclaimed debut solo album Zabalaza. Never one to shy away from socio-political issues in her music or in her public life, her music is richly layered with references to traditional and contemporary sounds including traditional Xhosa rhythms, Mbaqanga, reggae, kwaito, funk and jazz. 

Nowadays Mazwai is a regular feature on the international music festival circuit. Her stage presence is unparalleled and concerts on home turf are popular occasions for her dedicated Joburg fan base. This legendary star performs at Gold Reef City courtesy of local music promoters Bassline Live, who celebrate their 25th anniversary this year.
