The Butchery by Marble (temporarily closed)

The Butchery at Marble is hatching some new plans so is temporarily closed. [Feb 2018] Watch this space!

This butchery by top restaurant Marble (a few floors up) at Keyes Art Mile is an exquisite and unique destination that also doubles as a wine bar. Even non-meat eaters might appreciate the showstopping displays of the finest cuts of meat that will make you view a carnivorous lifestyle in a whole new light. With a boutique feel, and a beautiful range of kitchen accessories that include custom-made linens and ceramicware this is a stop worth making on any food-lover’s itinerary.

It’s a rare feeling to walk into a butchery and think of it as a glamorous space but this place will have you rethinking that idea. The meats are artfully arranged and stare back at you through the glass freezer doors, while the décor combines marble and velvet to create an atmosphere of pure luxury. The wine bar serves platters of cheese and charcuterie so stop for a drink, or linger for longer.

Its owners refer to it as “essentially the jewellery shop of butchers”. Modelled on the Sydney-based Victor Churchills, The Butchery by Marble, is another co-venture bewteen Marble restaurant's award-winning chef Dave Higgs and Gary and Irene Kyriacou. Irene Kyriacou has also designed the interiors of both spaces.

A nice irony is the grisly-looking artwork by Jane Alexander called “Frontier with Ghost, 2007” that adorns the entrance wall. An internationally acclaimed artist, one of Alexander’s most famous works is titled “The Butcher Boys”. The artwork, like many of the artworks on display throughout the Trumpet building is part of the private collection of Anton Taljaard, owner of Keyes Art Mile.

Best of all, your meat purchase will be guided by chefs who will ensure you get all the advice you need to make the most of your cut.
