A mass cycle event that seeks to use cycling as a tool for local development, the 7th edition of the Freedom Ride celebrates Mandela’s centenary with a 36.2km social ride starting in Joburg’s student heartland Braamfontein and riding out to Soweto’s Vilakazi Street and back. Perfect for the cycling fundi and beginner alike, the untimed mass cycle is free to enter but cyclists are encouraged to donate to the Qhubeka bicycle empowerment scheme.
