Artist Themba Khumalo is best known for his evocative etchings that capture the cityscape and landscapes of Johannesburg. Born in 1987 in Soweto, he is a graduate of the Artist Proof Studio in printmaking. In his work he explores the use of different  mediums including charcoal drawings and painting. He has exhibited locally and internationally. His work is an exploration of a complex city, one in which he finds great beauty but also immense challenges. In his own words "My concept is based on my relationships with people. In my work, I explore feelings of connectivity and isolation. There are never human figures in the images. However, electric poles, plugs and cables are the subjects of all the works. These are metaphors for life, energy and movement. The subjects are seen in different contexts, all outside, in a city or landscape. This provides the context. The atmosphere is created by the sky."
Emhlambeni is a Zulu word meaning 'in the fold'.
