The exhibit presents treasures from Silesian culture in the form of sculptures and paintings from the Gothic period and modern times. Despite the title, the exhibit doesn’t only contain sacred art but also that from Upper Silesia. Wartime changed the fate of the collection, where some of it was dispersed, and the part that was saved returned to the Silesian Museum in 1996. More than 120 objects are on display in two stylistic groups: late Gothic to Renaissance-Baroque and from the end of the 14th century to the end of the 18th century. The main part of the exhibit symbolizes a sanctuary and encompasses various cultural influences. The modern art section includes European influences like reformation, humanism and counter reformation. Multimedia presentations complete the exhibit by presenting wall art and newly conserved discoveries from Upper Silesia.
