These stereoscopic scenes viewed via the Silesian Museum’s charming Fotoplastikon show happy 19th-century tourists and travellers enjoying frolics in the mountains, in hot springs and at health resorts. At the time they were created, the concept that fresh air and spending time outdoors was beneficial to one’s health was relatively new, and the ‘health resort’ was a new phenomenon. These amusing images were created to promote the idea of ‘health tourism’ and healthy living habits for 19th century city dwellers.
