Strindberg's plays at the time in Sweden (play Pelikan was written in 1907) were criticized, the writer was blamed for rough language and obscene literary paintings. Paradoxically, in 2018, the Apeiron theater director, in the apogee of democracy, completely abandoned the playwright's texts when constructing the Stabat Mater.
The director motivated the choice with the words of one actor from the play Pelikan: "We are talking a lot, but it may be that we do it in order to mask the essence, the truth". This phrase becomes the core of the performance.
