Regardless of special dates and anniversaries, the Jan Matejko House is a must-see spot to be checked off your list when visiting Kraków. If you want a run-down of pretty much all the important historical and political events that came to define Poland's history, look no further than the body of Matejko's works, as the artist is widely regarded as one of the finest representatives of historicism in Polish painting. 2018 is a particularly special year, as it marks 180 years since Matejko's birth, 125 years since his death, and 120 years since the Matejko House was opened in his honour. In celebration of all these anniversaries, lots of special events, conferences, concerts, and newly arranged exhibits are in store, for the amateur art historian in all of us.
