Klub 89

Lying perfectly intact and practically frozen in time in the basement of the Forum Hotel, we knew it was only a matter of time before this sleeping dragon awoke again. Originally opened in 1989 (hence the name), this concrete riverside monstrosity was one of the most exclusive four-star hotels in town, and its basement club 'Crazy Dragon' likely hosted the drunken dance exploits of everyone from Helmut Kohl and George Bush to Steven Spielberg.

Closed in 2002, the club has been restored and reopened in exactly its original style by Forum Przestrzenie in collaboration with Unsound Festival to basically serve as a year-round headquarters for Unsound's aesthetic and events. Of course the irony of having today's most avant-garde and experimental DJs playing marathon all-night sets before a backdrop of plush communist decor is rich indeed, and the organisers compare it as akin to entering a David Lynch film (ooh, artsy).
The design is based on circles with a 360 degree bar at the centre, surrounded by a dancefloor and large, semicircular leather booths lining the walls. With carpeted walls and ceilings, it basically looks like an expensive Eastern European strip club, and indeed it was precisely that until not long ago. Check their FB page to see what Unsound-curated events are taking place here now.
