Pride in your homeland while at the same time having an equal embarrassment of it is a duality of man presented in the exhibition The Orient. "The New East" is a common trait in the art from artists of the Eastern and Central European regions. Can this suppressed inferiority complex be responsible for the rise of nationalistic and undemocratic movements across the East? Can positive conclusions be drawn from admitting defeat in the question of establishing and using Eastern European identities? Around 50 artists from various former Soviet bloc countries are on display in the exhibition.
