This small parrot aviary on the market square offers the chance to observe, interact with, and even feed upwards of 40 brightly coloured, beautiful birds from over 15 different species, including cockatoos, parakeets and macaws. The birds have free range of the place and quite enjoy landing on guests - protective clothing (shit happens) is provided for free, including head covers and arm sleeves, because the birds will use your body as a perch; if you aren't comfortable with large birds landing on your back or head, don't enter (seriously). Overall, this is a pretty cool experience for kids, though we wouldn't recommend it for those under 6. Visits are limited to 20 minutes, with a finite number of guests granted entry every 20 minutes past the hour.

If you're really crazy for macaws, they also have a second, larger aviary north of the centre (ul. Opolska 12B) with over 100 birds and no time limit.

I went with my son who is 3 years old. It was a bit much for him: though he didn''t want to leave, he also freaked out a bit when the birds tried to land on him and wasn''t comfortable feeding them (though he really wanted to). I was unnerved myself, and honestly felt like I was under duress. Birds were landing on my head, back and shoulders nonstop. My son was given a protective covering, but I was not - perhaps because I had a hoodie. The hoodie wasn''t a good choice because I had parrots attacking the drawstrings dangling at my neck nonstop. They were also chewing my shoes (and the walls, and anything they could - these birds love to chew stuff; don''t go in with big earrings!). I had had enough after a few minutes, I couldn''t get the birds away from me and was a little surprised at the indifference and inaction of the staff. That''s not to say I felt I was in danger, but I did literally feel like I was under duress. Being bitten by the birds (which seems inescapable) isn''t a big deal, but for young kids...it is. I wouldn''t take a kid under 6 there. I think this is better suited for kids 7-14. You can pay extra for bird food, but it''s not really necessary since once you enter there is food everywhere. They also let you pay half-price to extend your visit. My son made me do this, even though he didn''t want the birds near him, so...
