We already know Warsaw is a bit obsessed with Chopin, but Kraków also gets in on the action with the annual Sfogato Music & Arts Festival. Named after the Italian word for "flow" or "escape," the Sfogato Festival is a wink to true die-hard Chopin fans, as he was the one to first use sfogato as a musical term in describing one of his pieces. The festival brings in some of the best names in piano, baritone, violin, and organ musicians, like the Sergie SultanovTomasz Jarosz, and our own home-grown Polanski Duo, with artistic direction by Marta Polańska. Aside from classical concerts featuring compositions from Chopin as well as his contemporaries Liszt and Schumann, the programme also features piano workshops, a ringtone and phone signal creation competition, a photography exhibit (Frédéric Chopin’s Jardin des Plantes).
