We might spend a lot of time writing about (and implicitly promoting) alcohol and alcohol-related events in Ljubljana and elsewhere in Slovenia, as well as making fun of the restrictions on purchasing the stuff, but that doesn't mean that we take alcoholism and the other problems associated with its consumption lightly. On the contrary, alcoholism is quite a prevalent problem in the country. If you're one of the many people who drink excessively and are interested in getting some help to start living a healthier lifestyle or a visting AA member, perhaps checking out the weekly international Alcoholics Anonymous meeting in Ljubljana would be a good place to start. Taking place in Poljane each Tuesday evening at 19:00, it's the only English language meeting between Vienna and Venice. Email the organisers for more info.
