Kongresni Trg

more than a year ago
Dating back to 1821, this former ceremonial space in the centre of the city is perhaps best known as the place where on October 29, 1918, the independence of the State of Slovenes, Croats and Serbs was announced during a mass demonstration. Also figuring as a location for more recent independence demonstrations during the late 1980s and again in 1991, today the square is a popular meeting place among the locals and is surrounded by some of the city’s most well/known buildings and features several statues including works by none other than our old hero Jože Plečnik. The adjacent Zvezda Park is also one of Ljubljana's most popular green spaces and meeting spots.
