In art history, we almost do not know a motive that would be portrayed, interpreted and discussed as many times as many times as in flowers. Flowers are carriers of a variety of symbols and meanings, spanning from the ancient myths of Narcissus and Daphne, the Christian interpretations of flowers as symbols of virtue and biblical stories, and the romantic literature of the 19th century and intense associations with love and beauty. Because of their historical role in art, the flowers are so powerful a semiotic sign, and the representation of flowers is so saturated with cultural-historical significance that, when looking at their image, neutrality completely disappears and our perception of the depicted is wholly or unintentionally permeated with associative meanings. This artist Tanja Lažetić is well aware of this, so in her series of photographs there are 5 flowers of 8 photographs introduces contemporary issues, overcomes past connotations of flowers and places them in the times of modernity.
