We have very exciting news about the Slovenian restaurant scene courtesy of our friends and colleagues at The Slovenia International Publishing House who have just announced the winners of the inaugural The Slovenia Restaurant Awards sponsored by Diners Club.The naming of the winners was the culmination of several months work by the Awards’ Expert Committee who recommended 140 restaurants from across Slovenia, which were then voted on by the Chefs & Foodies Academy and public at large in order to come up with a short list of top restaurants in each region and ultimately the best regional restaurants in 2017.Top regional restaurants (by alphabetical order)North: Gostilna Danilo, Gostilna Krištof, Hiša Raduha, Dvor Jezeršek, Vila Podvin,South: Gostilna Rakar, Gostilna Repovž, Gostišče Kapušin, Ošterija Debeluh, Restavracija Grad OtočecEast: Gostilna Rajh, Hiša Denk, Pavus-Grad Tabor, Restavracija Mak, Restavracija SedemWest: Domačija Klinec, Gostilna Mahorčič, Gostilna pri Lojzetu , Gostilna Tomi, Hiša FrankoLjubljana and Central Slovenia: Gostilna As, Gostilna Belšak, Gostilna Mihovec, Gostilna na gradu, Gostišče Grič, Restavracija Cubo, Restavracija JB, Restavracija Strelec, Skaručna, SushimamaThe prestigious title of Regional Winner 2017 was awarded to the following restaurants: Vila Podvin in the North, Ošterija Debeluh in the South, Gostilna Rajh in the East, Hiša Franko in the West, and Restavracija Strelec in Ljubljana and Central Slovenia.The distinguished Expert Committee also awarded the title of Best Restaurant 2017, which went to Hiša Franko (Kobarid), run by the charming Valter Kramar and Ana Roš. The mission of The Slovenia Restaurant Awards is to foster Slovenia’s international reputation as a gastronomic destination, to encourage restaurants to improve the quality of the services and experience they offer and also to support the development of a healthy “foodie” culture among Slovenes.
