What’s On

While it might be quieter this year due to the aftermath of the Coronavirus epidemic, most of the city's annual fall events are still scheduled and selling out. Between sweaty, hot and sunny days and a couple of typical thunderstorms that for some reason traditionally prefer the weekends, the city's cultural climate for the autumn is set: check out our pick the best of autumn events and festivals in Ljubljana that captivate the city during the beginning of September.

Million dolar views

No visit to Ljubljana Castle is complete without a journey to the top of the viewing tower. Standing exactly 400 meters above sea level, it offers panoramic views of the entire city, stretching all the way from the rolling hills of Dolenjska to the south to the rocky peaks of the Julian Alps in the north. The tower's history is almost as tumultuous as that of the castle itself, with the original structure, referred to as Piper's Tower

Spotlight on our Partners

This tiny takeaway at Bavarski Dvor is a true Ljubljana institution, and has been serving up piping hot Serbian-style burek almost literally non-stop, around the clock since the 1970s - some five million pieces in total! It was the runaway winner of our inaugural Battle of the Burek competition way back in 2010, and consistently ranks as a local favourite year in and year out. No night out on the town is complete without a pre- or post-club stop here, so don't be surprised to see a queue at four morning. And while they renovated not too long ago, the menu and prices have thankfully stayed the same. A must-try on any visit to Ljubljana!

Day Trip From Ljubljana To Vintgar Gorge

One of the most spectacular natural sights in Slovenia is hidden away just north of Gorje and only 4km from Bled. The Vintgar Gorge, known locally as Soteska Vintgar or Blejski Vintgar, was created during the last ice age when glacial movements forced the crystalline waters of the Radovna river to the northeast, where it was able to slowly cut its way through the limestone terrain, creating sheer canyon walls reaching heights of up to 100m

Trending Global City

If you ask someone from Zurich which of the city’s sights represents Zurich best, they’ll probably point to the Grossmünster, its unmistakable double towers making it the closest Zurich has to a landmark. Wasserkirche and Fraumünster complete the trinity of famous churches. Lindenhof is where Zurich started off and is a lovely spot today, while the central police station is another unlikely lovely spot - unless maybe you’re escorted there.
