The "Tectonic Movements" exhibition at Museum of Art in Łódź - ms¹ offers a unique perspective on the Polish political and economic transition of the 1980s and 90s. Rather than viewing this period as a sudden, one-time event, the exhibit portrays the transition as a prolonged and complex process marked by the collision and penetration of two systems. This tectonic metaphor allows us to see the transition as a continuous process, rather than a discrete event, and to better understand the changes that took place during this time. The exhibition features several dozen works of art, many of which are being shown for the first time, along with archives and documents of social life. These pieces are presented on two planes of inquiry: the sphere of the spirit, and the realm of matter. The exhibition explores the main trajectory of the Transition, which is marked by a movement from hope to disappointment, from diversity to unification, and from activity to stagnation. This exhibit offers a unique and thought-provoking perspective on the emerging Polish democracy of the 80s/90s, and is a must-see for anyone interested in this period of history.
