Unlike most other cities in Europe, classical music doesn't disappear from Lucerne's repertoire during the summer as the 'Lucerne Festival in Summer' hosts dozens of great concerts. The Lucerne Festival is an institution here, bringing some of the world’s best musicians, conductors and composers of classical music, and other genres, to the lakeside. Since 2003, the festival has always been opened by the Lucerne Festival Orchestra, which is conducted by Riccardo Chailly. The opening concert is screened for free on a big screen open-air at Inseli park (August 16). For 2019 the socio-political theme of 'power' will be adressed from a wide variety fo musical perspectives. Visit www.lucernefestival.ch for daily programmes and tickets.
