The Shining Stir of Feasts

Sep 5 - Feb 10 2019       Ul. Prechistenka 12
An exhibition of watercolor paintings, engravings and lithographs depicting traditional holidays and festivities of 19th century Russia is now open at the Pushkin Museum. A nation’s festive culture reflects its state history and the morality, social values and norms of its people; whether it be holidays of the Russian church, popular provincial celebrations on the streets of St Petersburg, private wedding rituals, a birthday soiree or the coronation of Russian monarchs – all lend an impression of Russian holidays observed and celebrated in the 19th century.
