Kraków's oldest Indian restaurant, Indus Tandoor essentially set a new, higher standard for the city's ethnic eateries when it opened in the Old Town way back in 1998. Now they've moved with their faithful clientele into a large, historic cellar space just off of ul. Floriańska. Lit by lanterns that cast a canopy of constellations on the walls, the new space is more modern, minimal and attuned to an upper-crust aesthetic we associate with the capital, but it's nicely executed and stops well short of being showy. The kitchen, staffed with Indian chefs, still delivers some of the best food of its kind in town. Try the business lunch specials (Mon-Fri 12:00-17:00, 34zł) for a fantastic value and variety.

You can get volcanically spicy here, but you do have to ask. Unless something has changed, they do have an Indian cook and management. I would steer you away from the lunch specials - they are less special than the dinner menu. That dinner menu is vast, containing at least 3 pages of vegetarian dishes alone, and comparable numbers of other types of dishes. And the dinners, they do quite nicely, with reasonably authentic spicing. The portions are HUGE, served in fancy pots with a tea candle underneath to keep your dinner warm.If you reserve in advance, you can have their 4-person loggia, near the front door on an ornate little balcony. When I took my parents around town in an attempt to survey the 'best of Krakow', this place was on the list.
