A long time in the planning, the monument to the late President of Poland, Lech Kaczyński, was unveiled on 10 November 2018, just one day before Independence Day - this being a big one, celebrating the 100th anniversary of Poland regaining Independence in 1918. Lech Kaczyński's statue looks upon Piłsudski Square, specifically to the spot where the Smoleńsk Air Disaster Monument (also unveiled in 2018) stands.
