Near Postojna and entirely surrounded by forests, meadows and more, the 16th Century Prestranek Castle offers the splendid combination of horse riding and culinary goodness. Having been bought by Austrian King, Karel VI in the 18th Century, who established the Lipizaner Stud Farm, it has been involved in breeding and equestrian activities ever since. At the restaurant, seafood and pizza are available, as well as delicious organic Angus beef that is reared on the farm itself. Individual riding lessons, holiday riding camps, an excellent family package of an hour with the horses and lunch are on offer, as well as a tour of three organic farms, bicycle rental and accommodation in one of six neatly furnished apartments. With over 300 hectares at its disposal, Prestranek Castle is well worth a visit.
