Bobsleighing in Sigulda 06 Dec 2016
The legendary bobsleigh track in Sigulda, only an hour’s train ride from Riga, was completed in 1986 and the 1200m-long run regularly hosts international luge and skeleton competitions. For €50/person, visitors can take a ride in renovated Italian-made bobsleighs that were used in the Sarajevo Olympics. A professional driver is at the helm. For €10/person you can try the foam rubber vučko which basically looks like something between a life raft and a torpedo, but can still reach speeds of 70km/h. The genuine bobsleigh gets closer to the 100km/h mark. The frog, or varde in Latvian, is also an option for roughly €15/person. Unlike the vučko, this green contraption includes a plastic window in the front allowing its two passengers to lie down on their stomachs to see every inch of ice pass underneath their noses. Bobsleighing is a unique experience that even families with children over four (€7/child) can enjoy. Contact one of the companies below or just take a train to the Sigulda station at the weekend.
