Hockey: Dynamo Riga

27 Dec 2019

Spread out over a dozen time zones, the Russian Kontinental (sic) Hockey League or KHL also includes teams from beyond the borders of the Russian Federation like Dynamo Riga (Latvia), Jokerit Helsinki (Finland) and Kunlun Red Star (China), to name a few. All told, 24 teams from seven nations will compete in the 2019/2020 season. Many of the KHL teams have adopted Soviet-era names, hence all of the dynamos, locomotives and metallurgists. Dynamo Riga have had their ups and downs, but they did win the first annual Nadezhda Cup (Cup of Hope), which essentially means that they were the best of the worst teams in the league. Home games take place at Arena Riga. Tickets can be bought online at Biļešu serviss. Tickets cost €5 - 88. Visit www.dinamoriga.eu for more information. Photos by Nienke Bos
