Riga replaced it horse-drawn street cars with electric trams for its 700th anniversary in 1901. If you’d like to see what it was like to travel over a century ago you can hop aboard the Riga Retro Tram at one of its many stops between Ausekļa iela in the city centre and its final destination – Mežaparks. The tram is an exact replica of the ones used all those many years ago. It weighs 9 tonnes and can transport 30 passengers. You can buy a ticket from the driver for €2 (free for kids under 7). The tram operates on the weekends throughout the summer and you can even rent the tram for parties and events. Hop on anywhere along route No.11 between the Ausekļa iela stop and Mežaparks.
