Romantic Riga

12 Jun 2018

Activities: enjoy a day at the spa with a swimming pool, saunas, steam rooms, heated lounges and a salt room at the brand-new Hedonic SPA & Wellness centre in the five-star Grand Poet Hotel by Semarah. The cinema is an oldie, but a goodie for a date and you can choose the ultra-modern Forum Cinemas near the train station.

Gifts: for traditional Latvian jewellery try Baltu Rotas next to the entrance of St. Peter’s Church, but if you’re willing to spend more on contemporary pieces that are more like wearable art then visit Putti on Mārstaļu. The Flower Market on Tērbatas is of course the best place to buy a bouquet, but if you’d prefer a gift that’s more risqué, visit SexyStyle at Barona 33A. For exclusive locally-made chocolates try Rienzi across the street from the opera.

Drinks: For affordable yet tasty cocktails with a view, take the lift to the 6th floor of Forum Cinemas to discover Vertigo, which also offers special booths for two facing Old Riga. For classic cocktails with a Japanese twist and a chic contemporary ambience try COD at Tērbatas 45, but for exclusive drinks poured by professional mixologists reserve a couple of seats at the trendy Churchill Cocktail Saloon (Thu - Sat) on Aldaru.

Dinner: for a fantastic culinary experience we recommend Muusu, located in an 18th-century townhouse. But if you enjoy your fine dining with a view, then try Bilbliotēka No.1 or Kolonāde. Our Stories. If it’s candlelight and romantic ambience you’re after then Mio on Blaumaņa will do the trick. Finally, if you’re just looking for a romantic spot to have some coffee and cake, then drop by Art Café Sienna on Strēlnieku in Riga's art nouveau district.
