The Alchemist craft brewery is housed in a lovingly restored 19th-century wooden building, yet its interior has been given a much more modern twist. Much of the space has been designed in keeping with the brewery theme from the tiled walls and floors and the potted plants that grow from upcycled kegs to the copper lighting fixtures, a gentle nod to the vats of old in which beer was traditionally brewed. Here its pale ales, IPAs, saisons, pilsners and seasonal offerings are made in the stainless steel containers seen to the right of the main bar. A small menu is also available and although not everyone will want to shell out €11 for a burger, The Alchemist’s magical brews might just convince you to splurge. Its T-shirts and other merch also make for good, non-traditional souvenirs of your trip to Riga.
