One of the world’s oldest board games has finally found a home in Riga. Chess enthusiasts can join the Riga Chess Club at its headquarters in Old Riga’s Victory Pub. Even if you’re a complete novice, the Riga Chess club can assess your abilities and even suggest a chess master willing to teach you the basics. Club members are provided with chess sets, electronic clocks and a 20% discount off of their bar bill any day of the week, although the most popular chess evenings are usually on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. A Weekly Blitz is also held every Tuesday night from 18:00 - 21:00, where you can compete against other chess players. After registering, the games usually begin around 18:30.
