If you were wondering what that huge red tower is that looks like Seattle’s Space Needle but without the flying saucer on top, it happens to be Latvia’s national TV and radio tower. At a height of 368m, it’s also the tallest such tower in the European Union. For a small fee you can take the lift up to the observation deck and get an incredible view at a slightly less impressive height of 97m above the ground. Supposedly on a clear day you can not only see the entire city and the sea, but also the tallest hills in Sigulda over 50km away! Take trolleybus No.19 from the Inženieru iela stop next to the University of Latvia to the Zaķusala stop on the Sala bridge and then walk the rest of the way to the tower.
