Parks of Rostov

Rostov-on-Don is as green a city as you are going to find, and there are a whole host of parks simply begging to be used for an afternoon stroll, or even late at night if romance is your thing. As the name of the city suggests, proceedings are dominated by the hulking Don river, and the embankment takes top billing as the most romantic walk in town. Don’t rule out the Botanical Garden however, a veritable feast of greenery that does everything a Botanical Garden is supposed to do.

Revolution Park and Gorky Park may be two of the most common park names in the entire country, but that doesn’t mean that there is anything generic and boring about these two expanses. Fountains, trees and all of the city’s inhabitants can be found in one of the two (not all of the citizens at once of course), but at no point will you feel like the proverbial sardine. There’s plenty of air to go around after all.

Ostrovsky Park rounds out the troika, and Rostov Zoo takes the prize for the city’s largest green expanse. This is one of the largest zoos in the country, and zoo enthusiasts will kick themselves for not visiting. Those ethically opposed to zoos should obviously give that one a miss.
