Lithuania’s largest example of stained glass is an absolute must-see when in town. Made in 1986 as part of Šiauliai’s 750th anniversary celebrations by Kazys Morkūnas (1929-2008) and covering an impressive 200 square metres, the beautifully coloured work depicts imagined scenes from the 1236 Battle of Saule including sword-wielding knights and stylised horse heads with strange eyes and big goofy teeth. Inside the Saulė Concert Hall, it’s easy to miss unless you look closely, and is best appreciated if you go inside the building via the entrance at street level and view it with the daylight shining from behind.
