The Fast Urban Railway (abbreviated in Polish as SKM) is the yellow-and-blue commuter-train network running between Gdańsk, Sopot and Gdynia. SKM Trains run very frequently - as often as every 10-15mins, with 02:00-04:00 being the only time you'll face long wait times.

Tickets can be bought from modern ticket machines which can be found on most platforms and have instructions in English, German and Russian. Alternatively, you can buy tickets in main stations where you see the sign for Kasa Biletowa or, as a last resort, from the conductor at the front of the train. Keep in mind, however, that the latter option will cost an extra 2.80zł (unless you're at a station that doesn't have any ticket machines!) If you buy tickets from the Kasa Biletowa, make sure that you stamp them in the bright yellow boxes on or close to the platform to validate them, before getting on the train. If you don’t, you risk being fined by the plain-clothed ticket inspectors. Alternatively, you can purchase your ticket via the mobile apps for Jakdojade and Skycash. Ticket prices are dependent on the number of stops you are travelling. As a reference:

• From Gdańsk to Gdynia will cost 8zł and take about 35 mins
• From Gdańsk to Sopot will cost 5.50zł and take about 20 minutes.

Bikes travel for free and should be carried in a specially-marked carriage at the front of the train. Children under 4 travel for free although you also have to buy a 0zł ticket (we kid you not) and you are likely to be requested to provide proof of the child‘s age so basically keep passports on you at all times. ISIC cards allow for a student discount but only if you study in Poland. Euro 26 cards are not valid at all.

The SKM connects to the PKM (Pomeranian Metropolitan Railway), which assists in regional travel and getting to the Airport. You can change trains from SKM to PKM and visa versa at Gdańsk Główny and Gdańsk Wrzeszcz station. On that note, the journey from Gdańsk Główny (via Gdańsk Wrzeszcz) to the Airport takes around 45 mins.
