06 Feb 2019
With both Valentine's Day and International Women's Day fast approaching once again, it's a great time of the year to give some thought about where you're going to be taking that special someone for a romantic dinner. While we won't even pretend to be capable of offering any sage advice in the romance department, we have helpfully put together a list of the 18 most romantic restaurants in Skopje for 2018.

Please also note, that in order to avoid the pressure of deciding exact rankings, the locations below have been listed alphabetically.

This popular, bistro-style affair to the west of the centre and close to City Park is a laid-back establishment that sees all manner of diners congregate for its quick service, good prices and famous happy hour.

Bugatti Bistro

Found inside an unassuming-looking greenish building in the far-flung western edges of the city centre, this combined bar and grill churns out magnificent and affordable food

Canyon Matka

An unbeatable canyon-side location, bustling waiters and an impressive menu of Macedonian fare greet visitors to Canyon Matka. Their upstairs hotel comes with some of the best views in the city.

Distrikt Bar & Kitchen

The Skopje Marriott’s ground floor terrace bar and open kitchen is one of the hottest locations in town, a classic Marriott incarnation aimed at those looking for great food, a terrific view and a whole host of extras.

Gnezdo Kitchen Bar

Found on a busy, traffic-free street in the very centre of the city, the location couldn’t be better - the perfect place to stock up on calories and watch the world drift slowly by. Great music and always lots of fun.

Hunter’s Lodge Kamnik

A memorable experience indeed, the restaurant, which comes with a fine outdoor terrace during the warmer part of the year, is decorated with a hunting feel including furniture made of antlers.

Located in one of the best spots in the city, the people at Kolektiv have put on a fine show indeed. Part craft beer pub and part restaurant, we recommend indulging in some of their home-produced beer.

Korner Baba Cana

Excellent service, extremely affordable prices, delicious food and great views from Vodno mountain set Korner Baba Cana out as one of the best places in town to gorge oneself silly.

La Terrazza

An under-appreciated gem, this elegant and impressive restaurant just a few metres from Plostad Makedonija does an excellent job at combining the very best of nouvelle cuisine and good old-fashioned Italian favourites.

Located in one of the current hot spots in town a short taxi ride from the city centre, Lyra is a fine traditional restaurant that’s been keeping the locals wined, dined and pleasantly happy for over two decades.

So sophisticated they decided to put it on Paris Street, everything from the décor to the service to the impressive selection of fine international dishes make Olive one of the top choices for a romantic meal.

This in-house, or rather in-ship, restaurant on board the hotel of the same name provides one of the most unusual settings in which to eat that we’ve ever encountered.

Serving knockout fresh fish including salmon, calamari, squid and a particular good fish stew, the interior of this massively popular restaurant is done up to look like an old fisherman’s cabin

Skopski Merak

A timeless Debar Maalo favourite combining the very best qualities of traditional Macedonian cuisine and modern culinary practices, this is one of our favourite places for emptying our wallets and filling our stomachs in Skopje.

Stara Kuka

Found inside a traditional merchant’s konak house dating from 1838, this is one of the places where the locals bring foreigners to experience real Macedonian cooking.

In business for over 40 for a very good reason, this legendary and totally unassuming place in the Old Bazaar serves a limited menu of dishes, all of them famously delicious.

An excellent club, bar, lounge and restaurant in one, Trend serves great international food from a helpfully photographic menu and features friendly waiters who remember you the second time you visit.
