They were innovators up here, don’t you know. Now a Grade I structure in the hands of the National Trust, the Conwy Suspension Bridge was one of the first of its kind on the planet when it was finished in 1826. Thomas Telford was the genius behind it, and the famous Scottish civil engineer even went as far as focusing his design on the magnificent castle it served. This means iconic towers and an unmistakable sense of serious grandeur, and it is difficult to imagine the intensity one would have felt when approaching the bridge in the late 19th century. It is an absolutely joyful experience in the modern age, and a mighty photographable one at that.
