The black-and-white drama takes us back to 1962, when Soviet authorities forcibly suppressed a peaceful workers' demonstration in Novocherkassk. During the protests, 26 people were killed, more than 80 were injured and authorities covered up the case. Thirty years later, the archives are open and based on them, the director and screenwriter tells the story of Ludmila ( Julia Vysotska ) from the local party organisation, which has been fighting between itself and the system in which it believes. " I wanted to show how history reveals the insurmountable gap between the ideals of communism and the dramatic reality of the facts. The film is a tribute to the purity of that generation, to its victims and committed ideals" says the director about his film.
