Gods, Men, Heroes at the Hermitage Museum is an exhibition in commemoration of the three ancient Italian cities of Pompeii, Herculaneum and Stabia that were buried under volcanic ashes during an eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD. The exhibition includes frescoes, mosaics, sculptures and bronze objects that were discovered during archeological excavations, and allowed historians to reconstruct the perdition of these cities as well as the everyday life of their inhabitants. The collection lent by the Museo Nazionale Archeologico of Naples and the Parco Archeologico of Pompeii include over 80 masterpieces of Classical art that have never been exposed in St. Petersburg before.
