German by birth and naturalized American, successively French in later years, Max Ernst is internationally acclaimed for being one of the pioneers of the Dada movement and Surrealism. Although lacking a formal artistic training, the artist’s innate creativity and talent made him a recognized painter, sculptor, graphic artist and poet. For the first time in Russia, this spectacular exhibition will be running throughout the summer granting visitors the opportunity to admire the work of Ernst from his French period. A collection of twenty paintings and work on paper from the 1920s on mark Ernst’s passage from avant-garde experimentation to proto-Surrealism.
