Park Kolibki

al. Zwycięstwa 291, Gdynia ,   Orlowo         more than a year ago
The park is pretty is pretty much all that remains of a small village that existed here from early 14th century and was once part of the estate of monastery at Oliwa. Over the centuries the park was developed into an estate by a series of noble families and a manor house and stables still exist today. Of particular interest is the fact that during the inter-war period, the southern border of the estate formed the border between Poland and the Free City of Danzig.
In post-war Poland the estate was broken up and a main road developed connecting Sopot and Gdynia which cut the estate off from its cemetery (which can now be found hidden in the copse of trees between the dual-carriageways.
The manor and the park have been repaired and re-utilised in the 21st century by the city of Gdynia and now play home to stables, concerts and festivals.
