In spring 2022, the National Museum’s Main Building will host a presentation of the newly acquired collection of 14 works by Marc Chagall. The newly acquired works were created during the heyday of drawing and printmaking techniques in Western Europe in the 1960s and 1970s. Chagall combines gouache and tempera, crayon, pencil and coloured ink and even pastel. The colours of his works from this period are vibrant and intense. Some of the purchased works depict scenes from the Old Testament, peculiarly and individually interpreted, others – couples in love, bouquets of flowers and animals. There are also references to childhood. The depicted reality appears on two levels: real and fantastic.
