The Museum of Pharmacy in Warsaw is currently hosting a unique collection of leaflets and drug catalogs, designed for the pharmaceutical industry. Despite the monotony of the subject, this documentation are notable for their high artistic level and reference the equally-unique style of the Polish poster school! The exhibition is an opportunity to learn about the development of the Polish pharmaceutical industry in the 1960s and 1970s, and the use of design to promote the efficacy and safety of domestically-produced drugs. The leaflets and catalogues were created by some of the best designers of the time, including big names like Maciej Hibner and Jerzy Treutler. The exhibition also sheds light on the historical moment when the share of the pharmaceutical industry in the production of medicines increased, leading to the need for new forms of communication with doctors. The use of colour, simple graphic motifs, and collage techniques helped to convey the mode of action of specific drugs and build the image of a modern and competent manufacturer. The exhibition is a fascinating glimpse into the intersection of design, history, and medicine.
